The Way of the Roses, Cycle Route

The Way of the Roses, Cycle Route

Morecambe, Lancaster, York, Bridlington

A 170 mile cycle route from coast to coast, Lancashire and Yorkshire, passing through Carnforth, High Bentham, The Trough of Bowland, Settle and The Yorkshire Dales National Park, Airton, Hetton, Cracoe, Burnsall, Appletreewick, Pateley Bridge, Fountains Abbey, Studley Royal, Ripon, York, Stamford Bridge, Pocklington and Bridlington, through some of the most beautifull countryside in the world…

The Way of the Roses cycle route idea was established in 2007 and various organisations along with Sustrans went on to develop the route.
as with other cycle and walking routes across the North of England West to East is the preferred direction, the climb out of Settle up “IF HILL” (if you can get up!) is demanding! but the views from Kirkby Fell back towards Heysham and the Lake District are worth it, on a clear day you should be able to see Heysham Power Station, Morecambe Bay, The Lakeland Fells and Pendle Hill.
the other big pull is up to Greenhow and the highest point above sea level but you are rewarded by fantastic pies from the Butcher’s in Pateley Bridge!

There are many B&Bs, campsites and Youth Hostels along the route of the Way of the Roses, during summer you should book your accommodation in advance and be aware that some accommodation at bank holidays and busy times may require more than a single night stay.

You can find lots of accommodation in Airton & Malham in Malhamdale by following the link below.

The route is well signposted but you should always take a map of the route with you & it will help you plan your trip & overnight stays.

Plan a stop at the Cycle Friendly Town End Farm Shop in Airton (just 100 yards from the route) for some sustenance, tea & cakes or something more substantial!

You will pass The 3 Peaks Cycle shop in the Market Place in Settle if you need any bike spares!

If your looking for a baggage Courier to take the strain try Brigantes based in Kirkby Malham
